Modifications Law Services

Life changes — and your court order should reflect that. Whether you’re dealing with a new job, a relocation, or changes in your child’s needs, Tyler Family Law, LLC can help you pursue or defend a modification of custody, child support, or alimony.

What Is Modification Law?

Modification law allows a parent or former spouse to request changes to an existing family court order when a substantial change in circumstances has occurred. In Georgia, this can apply to:

  • Child Custody
  • Visitation / Parenting Time
  • Child Support
  • Spousal Support (Alimony)

These changes must be legally filed and approved by a judge — even if both parties agree. Without court approval, informal agreements are not enforceable.

Common Reasons for Seeking a Modification

  1. A parent’s job loss or significant income change
  2. One parent relocating or changing schedules
  3. A child’s evolving needs due to age, school, or health
  4. Violation of the current court order by the other party
  5. A parent’s new relationship or changes in home environment
  6. Concerns for the child’s physical, emotional, or academic well-being
